Camorra Fine Art was established to provide artists and collectors with a novel approach to engaging with each other. We are . . .
Cassandra Richardson, Director
Cassandra launched Camorra Fine Art in 2007 after a four and a half year stint as the Institute For Unpopular Culture's Creative Director and Chief Financial Officer. This ambitious San Francisco non-profit was founded in 1989 to provide emerging, outsider, and oftentimes controversial artists with creative solutions to survival & prosperity in the art world today. Through thousands of hours of dedicated service at the Institute, Cassandra honed her skills as a 'talent scout' for visual artists, public relations scribe, grantwriter, and cultural event curator.
If there's anything IFUC Founder David Ferguson imparted, it was the D.I.Y. or "Do It Yourself " mentality. Together, this dynamic duo helped dozens of Unpopular Culture artists gain financial footing through the gifting of "no strings attached" IFUC grants. They brought scintillating, original work to a hungry San Francisco audience by subverting the traditional museum/gallery system and doing shows their own way! Among the many prestigious venues upon which IFUC left its mark are the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Varnish Fine Arts, Space Gallery, Mezzanine, Ruby Skye, SF Design Center Galleria, and George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch.
Indeed, Cassandra learned how to "Do it Herself" from
the best: mentor and punk rock messiah David Ferguson founded
America's first independent punk rock record label, CD Presents, amplifying
the careers of such punk icons as The Avengers, Johnny Rotten and
Public Image, Ltd., Bad Brains, Black Flag, and the Dead Kennedys. His
life's most notable intersections with the art world included creative
collaboration with illustrious graffiti god Jean-Michel Basquiat,
contemporary spray can superhero Barry McGee (AKA "Twist"),
and the always entertaining, ever-changing antics of Andy Warhol. Cassandra
is concurrently working on the biography of this legendary "Godfather
of Punk," due
out in 2008.
Cassandra graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2002 with a triple major in Art History, Fine Arts, and English Literature.
